Life, liberty, and…

As you’re going to see in a few days, I’m not really a fan of Kid Cudi’s music. I had never sat through “Pursuit of Happiness” in its entirety until hearing the above performance by Lissie, an intense, rousing rendition of the song from Cudder’s debut. Lissie, as Aretha with “Respect” and Whitney with “I Will Always Love You” among many others before her, proves that a decent song in special hands can be elevated to inspiring heights. I doubt her cover will spread beyond the blogosphere, but it certainly points to an artist who seems to have the talent to deliver something memorable down the line (a cursory run through over her original work provided nothing so grandiose as this cover, but I’ve yet to give her the time she deserves). You can download an audio rip of the cover here.
