Photos from Sunshine – Danny Boyle, 2007. It’s not a particularly scary or narratively inventive film (Sunshine owes its entire plot and conceptual basis to Alien, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Armageddon). None of that matters. Boyle has a flare for the visually invigorating (he’s not entirely original nor does his work reach towards the ecstatic or sublime, it’s just energizing) that makes the film a consistently interesting watch. All the cast members turn in decent performances, but this film is really all about haunting set pieces and a few moments of visual brilliance. Not nearly as frightening as 28 Days Later, but at very least worth an evening.
